Album: Ska La-La-La-La
The sanctuary lights begin to dim
The congregation is waiting for the show to begin
The Director tells me everything will be fine
But I wish I had more time to learn my lines
Down the aisle come shepherds at the start
Looks like there was a sale on bathrobes at Wal-Mart
Next, come the wise men, causing quite a stir
One just can't stop sneezing, allergic to myrrh
This year we flew the angels on a wire
Lifted up higher and higher
Our heavenly host was the talk of the town
But what goes up, must come down
Putting on a play, it may not seem professional
But we're all filled with Christmas cheer
We're putting on a play
get on our knees and thank the Lord
That it only happens once a year
The angels finally made it backstage
with ice packs on their wings
While Joe and Mary come down the aisle
carrying the King of Kings
Our drama teacher plays Mary
She's forty-three years old
Her assistant is Joseph, he does what he's told
And our Jesus is little Sydney, we all call him "Sid"
This year we used a real baby, least year it was a Cabbage Patch Kid
Whoever wrote, "No crying He makes"
they never met this boy
And it's so hard to imagine Jesus, holding on to a Star Wars toy
We decided to use real animals this year
Camels, donkeys, cows and sheep
and janitors filled with fear
The room got rather pungent
some folks were turning green
And I don't recall
a guy with a shovel in the manger scene
When it was finally over, applause rang through the hall
The congregation stood on its feet as we took out curtain call
Onstage we all danced around
jumped up and down with glee
Then we broke right through a thin layer of plywood,
into the baptistry
