Album: Hineni!
I read about a rabbi in a very holy book,
Who came to Israel long ago;
And lived among my people there,
And taught the word of God,
So that anyone with ears to hear could know.
And I heard him when He wept for the lost to whom He came.
I heard him cry in anguish as He watched them turn away.
I saw him mourn when Jewish blood was spilled,
In Jesus' Holy Name.
I knew Jesus, before he was a gentile.
I read about early Church and how they came to learn,
That faith, and faith alone could save a man.
But when the gentile branches all grew numerous and full,
I wondered, would my people understand?
And I heard him when He wept for the lost to whom He came.
I heard him cry in anguish as He watched them turn away.
I saw him mourn, when synagogues were burned,
In Jesus' Holy Name.
I knew Jesus, before He was a gentile.
And I read in magazines and books in stores and stands today,
How many of my people understand.
And ears have heard the word of God, and eyes can finally see,
That Jewishness and Christ, go hand in hand.
And I heard him when He wept for the lost to whom He came.
I heard him cry in anguish as He watched them turn away.
I saw him mourn, when Jews were forced to flee,
From Jesus' Holy Name.
I knew Jesus, before He was a gentile.

I read once that they eventually stopped singing this song because it offended so many people. So very sad. - Sep 2020
