Matthew began his passion for music when he received a drum set one Christmas from his parents at the age of 4. From there, he added guitar and bass to his repertoire as a further experiment in music. As a teen, he went on to help plant Church of the Highlands as a founding member of the worship team under the leadership of Chris Hodges, which has now become one of the fastest growing churches in America. During this time, he was also mentored under worship leader Daniel Bashta as the drummer in his traveling band. From there, he moved to Fort Lauderdale for the past 5 years to work with The Harbour Church in Fort Lauderdale under the leadership of Justin Jarvis and Darren Davis.
