Highway 96
by Chris Hester

Album: Highway 96 - Single

I pulled off of 40, Just out of Nashville on Highway 96.
Saw a car lose control, it started to roll, crashed into a ditch.
I was the first one by the young mans side,
I could tell he knew that he was gonna die.
He said, tell my folks that I love them,
I don't wanna leave them this way.
Oh Mr. Could you help me pray.
What could I say to that poor young man,
He thought I knew God as I held his hand.
I stumbled with a word or two,
Then I remembered what my teacher said way back when in Sunday School.

I told him Jesus loves you, Jesus loves me,
He wants us all to go to Heaven but you gotta believe,
That he is the Son of God who died on the cross,
Who rose again to save the lost.
Don't let your live slip away, and make the mistake of waiting to late,
cause Heaven is waiting on you, Heaven is waiting on you.

I couldn't believe I said what I did, as I knelt there by his side.
The young man cried forgive me Lord, Save me before I die.
Then I bowed my head, I said Lord I believe,
That's when two were saved from this tragedy.
I told the young man that I loved him.
That I would see him up in Heaven someday.
I held him close to my heart. The angels took him away
And I thanked the Lord for my teacher, back in Sunday school.
She had helped save that young man, she now helped save me too.
If she were hear today she would still be saying,

Heaven is waiting on you,
Heaven is waiting on you.
Heaven is waiting on you,
Heaven is waiting on you.

Then I pulled off of I-40, Just out of Nashville, on Highway 96
