Album: An Offering
I was down by the sea when the day got late
I sat on a wall just to contemplate
Why it is that Man things he's so great
With a longing
I saw children playing across the bay
Playing old games that their parents played
Using words meant to isolate
With a longing
There's a longing in me
That won't let me be
I can't sit back complacently
And applaud profanity
I have this longing
I've seen the despondency in teenage eyes
As they reach out for the unattainable prize
With no one there to wipe tears from their eyes
With a longing
A man said to me "the sea is just like a lake
It's a good day to fish, about as flat as a pancake"
And I thought how well it described our spiritual state
With a longing
There's a longing in me, a longing in me
To see the knowledge of your glory fill the earth
As the waters cover the sea
Is the tide coming in or is the tide going out?
Are the righteous still sleeping, do believers still doubt?
Will we sink in this mud or drown in his love?
Will we see this thing like a gauntlet?
Or wear it like a comfortable glove?
I have this longing
