The connection that we need is only found in Him
Astounding when I wanna say that but don't, 'cause when I mention God, they go "Woah, you're so religious"
No? I've been lovin' on folks for years
But how can we have faith if we don't hear?
See, we go ape and think it's weird that Jesus saves and takes our fears
We pass blame and try to veer all of our shame onto our peers
'Cause we know deep down there's somethin' wrong
We broke the valves, we're off and on
We cope for now, but often long for somethin' sustainable
Like we're on a journey
It seems unattainable, why is this not working?
Instead of giving you the answer, why don't I just stay quiet?
For the sake of comin' off religious, why don't I just high-five ya?
Why don't we just never speak?
Why don't we just meet up to meet and have a drink and see if we can gossip about people to deflect how we're really feelin'?
Silly, silly, we both know that won't work
But hey, it'll mask the hurt until the next day
I'll just carry this weight until the net breaks and bury the trace of any headspace that I was lookin' forward to
More of You, more of You, Lord, I repent of my sins
If you noticed, this poem went from we to me back to Him
I'm creatively writing to show you all sides of the story
Now, I can speak more words and write many more metaphors
But I'll just leave it at this
