The Dream

Album: Secrets

I had a dream... my wife and my kids were camped in a place where I could see 200 miles in each direction. High on a grassy knoll with a fire burning bright, on a warm summer night. We had suitcases and bags and we were homeless and alone. No destinations in mind, but we were together my children at my feet, my wife at my side. Pierrette saw it first and pointed it out. A tiny bright light off in the distance coming toward where we were. It kept getting bigger and brighter as it got close to us. It was a train... a train speeding toward us. At that moment I realized it was the one we had be aboard. So I gathered the children and packed it all up knowing we had to get on - we must be aboard. This was it - the trip of our life - taking us to where we had to be. But, as the light got closer I began to realize that it was going so fast that we would never be able to get on board. I watched and I listened as each of my kids told me that we had to get on. So what to do now? Daddy? I broke my heart. The train sped by at a blur - we couldn't keep up. Then in an instant it stopped. A dream stop - perfectly still... calm. There they were - thousands of people sitting, standing, holding their things close. Hand in hand. The crippled - the blind - the poor in spirit - the meek - the last fools dressed in rags - Kings and Queens -hobos and saints - frail and weak. As we glanced at the bleachers in front of us... I saw it - five seats with each of our names inscribed on them. A little wooden ladder dropped down, and a voice from the crowd said get on board. I thought we had missed it. But, instead, it was coming for us! Coming for us! - Then it sped off as though breathing.

I had a dream he was coming for me.
I thought I saw him coming for me.
