Album: Homesick for Heaven
Before the Prairie Met the Plow
All of you with hearts still young and ears to hear
I'll tell of a time before the prairie met the plow
Wild flowers they did adorn her breast
And a thundering sea of bison roamed where she'd allow
Those living long before us knew her well
In a lovers' dance each with the other played their part
Sweet music all did make as one
'Til the prairie plow set sail and tore into her heart
A good look with new eyes will now reveal her pain
Fences shackle and bind her prairie creatures roam no more
And the song she sings is a mournful cry
Those blessed with ears to hear it weep like n'ere before
So dry your eyes dear ones I bring you home
Still waiting to dance she waits and gives her solemn vow
To return the moment she's been set free
And walk the way of the time before the prairie met the plow
