Album: The Vigil
(Instrumental)
Introductory Album Notes
During the Middle Ages, it was the custom of a Christian Knight to engage in an all-night fast, called a vigil, prior to committing himself to any dangerous enterprise such as a Crusade, mortal combat, or a pilgrimage. The primary elements of a vigil were prayer, worship, contemplation, and stringent self-examination. By entering into the intimate presence of God, the Knight sought to be purged of any carnal desire and to dedicate himself fully to the realization of God's Will in the ensuing endeavour.
The songs on this album seek to re-create the spirit of the Vigil, a spirit of humble worship and supplication, and to provide an impetus toward fervently seeking and following the will of the Lord Jesus. For though we are centuries removed from those who kept lonely watch though the night, it is the same Jesus Who they waited upon Who calls pilgrims of today to vigil and to quest. It is with these things in mind that you are here invited to participate in The Vigil.
