Album: It's For You
Come on, let me in,
And I swear I'll be your only friend,
And I will get down on my knees for you,
And if I could, you know I would do anything at all to get you near today,
Hear me say...
You're more than money, more than glory,
Yeah, more than I ever hope to say,
Hey, you're more than beauty, than mystery,
Yeah, more than now, more than yesterday.
Yeah.
Take me to your heart, 'cause there is where we make it start,
And I will get down on my knees for you and pay the price, sacrifice,
Do anything at all to melt your soul on ice,
Realise...
You're more than money, and you're more than glory,
Yeah, you're more than I can ever hope to say,
Hey, you're more than beauty, and you're more than mystery,
Yeah, more than now, more than yesterday.
Well, you're more than a lover and you're more than a friend,
You're more than a talent and you're more than a trend,
Yeah, more than I could ever hope to say, yeah,
You're more than a mystery, more than a dance,
And you're more than your history, and you're more than romance,
Yeah, more than now, now, now, more than yesterday, hey, hey.
(Thank you, thank you very much. Thank you, Ladies and Gentlemen, it's certainly a pleasure. A great honour to be back here at the Canal Street Tavern in Dayton, Ohio tonight. Thank you very much. Hey, we used to play the big rooms, Vegas. Anyway, that's the prepared portion of the show; our show's over now. It's time to open the floor to you all and uh...you can tell I've been in the south for about a week: "you all." And you'ns and we'ns, and up in Minnesota it's: "you's goes, you's goes", you know, you's. Anyway we don't have a show prepared at all, we didn't rehearse; we don't have time for such things. So, given that, it's your show tonight. "It's For You" it's the name of the tour. You pick the songs; you name them, we play them. (Unless we don't like it.) That doesn't mean we want to do them or we will do them, I'm just saying that we could have an argument at least. (It's a long show ahead, keep it coming.) I don't mind doing "It's For You", it's okay, it's an alright tune to start with...I have to pull out my peachy folder for it though. My bruised and battered peachy - does anyone remember these? Remember primary school, cheating with the microphone...or the multiplication tables? Microphone table - I live for a microphone. We used to draw these little obscene drawings; you know, we had these thought balloons going on here, where we somehow got all these people related into some kind of dubious three-way thing going here. This guy would say: "Coach, I gotta take a leak," and he'd be dripping down on top of the... The ski girl who's obviously...the cable's broke and all these guys are screaming, and dying, and... You know, something else going on here, but I don't want to get into that; it was sixth grade - I've grown out of this. Anyway, in here lies all the lyric sheets of all the songs that I payed $2 per lyric sheet for. I complained all the way, every single one of them. I didn't know what a S.A.S.E. was, but I sent in my money. They wrote me back and said, "Self-addressed, stamped envelope, Stupid." And this is all I got for $2: a folded piece of paper with a bunch of vague artwork, and words that are bad poetry at best. "It's a fishbowl fry, it's small potatoes. It's some tough tomatoes"...and here's where there's a beep: "When the beep hits the fan, from the fire to the frying pan." - God know I failed English Lit. Alright, that being said, we're going to go into this number. You guys asked for it, here it is. I can't remember what key this is in. What key is it in, Dave? G? I can't see from there. You got my glasses, Dave? (No, you got mine?) David Leonhardt please. Back from the dead; we dug him up, brought him 'round for one more tour. (Then back to the dead) Then back to the dead. On percussion: Mr. Brian Myers.)
