Ten Virgins
by Queen Majeeda

Album: Wedding Invitation

It is evening
the burning sun has set
leaving hues of pink, purple,
and orange
in the sky
twilight swiftly brings
dark shades of night.

Ten young women all dressed in white
await the bridegroom
to come get his bride
they all have their lamps ready
to light the way for the groom.
Five even brought extra oil
in case their lamps run out too soon.

While they are waiting
it seems the bridegroom is tarrying.
The night deepens
and they all fall asleep while waiting.
At midnight, the darkest hour
the bridegroom appears
and a voice awakens the young women,
The bridegroom is coming,
Go out to meet him!
The young women quickly trim their lamps
but five say their lamps are going out
and they need more oil.
They ask of the other five
who have extra
but they don't have enough
that they could share
so the five have to hurry to buy more oil.

Meanwhile, the bridegroom takes his bride
and they proceed
to the wedding feast
followed by the five young women
with their lamps brightly burning
and the door was shut.

As they are feasting
and celebrating
the other five who had gone oil shopping
arrive and found the door locked.
Lord, open to us!
they bang on the door crying
but He answers, truly I know you not.
Watch!
For you know not the day or the hour
The Bridegroom
is coming.
