Wedding Invitation

Album: Wedding Invitation

Weddings
in the Messiah's time
were on this wise.
The father of the groom chose the bride
once she agreed
they were immersed in water
on separate occasions
a spiritual cleansing
a mikvah.

Sometime after the groom to be
would await under the marriage canopy
where he would meet his bride to be
and bestow to her a precious gift
something pricey
they enter into a covenant
now they are betrothed,
engaged
to be married within a year or shortly after.
The bridegroom tells her
I'm going to prepare a home for you
then she starts preparing for the wedding
making sure her dress
and everything else is ready.

She keeps her lamp burning
brightly in the window
lest the bridegroom should come
and find her lamp not burning
'cause this would signify
there would not be a wedding.

Weddings usually took place at evening
so the bridesmaids also dressed in white
would have their lamps
trimmed and and burning
ready to light the way for the groom.
The bride knew not the day or the hour
when the groom would return
to take her to the home he has prepared
and the groom knew not the exact date
as the father was the one
who made that decision.

Once the father decided it was time
the groom and his groomsmen
would go get his bride
he would arrive with the blast of the trumpet
to announce his appearing
he received his bride
and would take the whole wedding procession
with him
where they enter another canopy
they finalize their vows
and embark on seven joyous days of feasting
beginning a new life together as a married couple.

Even so, the Father has chosen us
to live with Him eternally
He sent His son into the world
and has redeemed us
with the most valuable gift
the life of His Son
Who was baptized, immersed in the River Jordan.
Likewise we are baptized, immersed
on a separate occasion
and He has invited us
into His covenant
The Son told us,
He is gone to prepare a place for us
and has promised to return and take us
that where He is we might be there also.
In the meantime, we prepare for His return
and be a light to this dark world.
We are clothed in His righteousness
and if we are faithful
He keeps us spotless.

We, like the bride of the Messiah's time
know not the day or the hour
but one day, the Father will say
Son, go get my children
And the Son will appear
With all the blast of the trumpet
and we will go home
to that great wedding feast
to the place He has prepared for us
to live with Him through ages
everlasting.
